The Pancake Child
Once upon a time there lived a little old man and a little old woman in a little old house in the woods.

One morning when the little old woman was making pancakes, she chuckled to herself and said, "I'll make my little old man a pancake child."

She made the shape of the fine pancake child. She used raisins for the eyes and wide smiling mouth, and down the front of the jacket, she put a row of currant buttons.

She put the pancake in the pan. When she peeked under the lid, the pancake child hopped right out of the pan, skipped through the kitchen door, and rolled down the path to the woods.

The little old woman ran after the child, calling, "Come back, Come back!" But the pancake child only laughed and cried out, "Run, run, no big deal. You can't catch me. I spin like a wheel" He was right. The little old woman could not catch him.

Pancake Spin
Cut out the pancake. Poke a hole in the middle and give it a spin. What are pancakes made from? What grain is the flour from?
