Welcome
to the Hixson Family Farms!
January 1, 1998
Happy
New Year from Larry & Jean Hixson
We will be
sharing our daily activities with you for a few months on Wheat Mania.
As we start the New Year I want to give you a little background on our
farm. We came back to the family farm in 1965 after we both finished college.
We are K-State graduates (Go Cats! They made us very proud last night
with their victory over Syracuse). The Hixson family came to Kansas in
the spring of 1886 and homesteaded on a farm northeast of Ogallah. Ogallah
is about 8 miles east of WaKeeney and the present farm site. Larry's grandfather
moved to the present location in 1905. We raised our three children here.
Our daughter, Krista, is married to Darrin, a surgery resident. They live
in San Antonio, TX and have two daughters, Emma age 3 ½ and Chloe
age 2. They will spend most of the month of January with us while Darrin
is on a rotation in Houston, TX. Our daughter, Heidi, is married to Steve,
and they live in Annapolis, MD. Heidi is the legislative director in the
office of Senator Pat Roberts from Kansas. Steve works for Hallmark. Our
son, Jon, lives in Alexandria, VA and works as the agriculture legislative
assistant for Congressman Jerry Moran of Kansas. Now that you have met
our family, I will fill you in on our farm and farming activities as we
go along this month.
